The s.s. Easby, under the command of Captain Kennedy, left Wellington on the 21st August last, with an exceedingly low barometer and dirty weather from theN.E. On reaching Stephens island the weather settled down to a heavy N.W. gale. Being unable to make satisfactory progress, the ship put back, and anchored under the lee of DurviUe Island, where she remained until 8 p.m. of the 22nd, when, the weather appearing to have moderated, she started ; but again rounding Stephens Island, it was found to be blowing as hard as ever. She then sought shelter in Totaranui roadstead, where she remained until 9 a.m. of the 24th. After leaving there she experienced strong westerly gales until her arrival off Newcastle light at 11 p.m. on the 30th. *fter taking in her cargo of coal she proceeded to Sydney, which port she left at noon on the 9th inst. Experienced strong S. W. and N. gales until her arrival off Cape Farewell, shortly after which she was met by the heavy S.E. gale lately blowing. On passing the north entrance of Queen Charlotte’s Sound the wind appeared rather to increase, and the tide being adverse. Captain Kennedy deemed it advisable to run into Picton for shelter, and for the purpose of communicating with his owners and agents. Left Picton at 5 a.m. yesterday, and experienced very bad weather in crossing the Strait, and a terrific sea in the Terawlttirip. Arrived alongside the Queen’s wharf as above.

The s.s. Otago, G, Calder, commander, left Sandridge Railway Pier at 3 p.m. on the Bth inst.: cleared the Heads at 6 p.m., and passed the Sisters at noon on the following day. Had moderate S.W. and westerly winds to the 12th inst., and then strong northerly winds and thick weather to the land ; arrived at Hokitika at 9.30 p.m. on the 13th, but owing to the heavy gale with high sea and thick weather which prevailed, was unable to be tendered either there or at Greymouth ; left the latter place at noon on the 14th ; experienced light N.E. winds from there to the Steeples, thence fresh southerly breeze, arriving at Nelson at 8 p.m. ; left Nelson at 9.30 a.in. on the 10th, arriving at Wellington at 10.45 p.m. yesterday; experienced strong southerly winds and high sea in the Strait. The s.s. Phoebe, Captain Worsp, left Port Chalmers at 215 p.m. on Tuesday, arrived at Lyttelton at 9.30 a.ra. on Wednesday, and left Lyttelton at 4.15 p.m. the same day, arriving at the Queen’s wharf at 8.45 a.m. yesterday. Experienced fresh S.E. winds i throughout both passages. She leaves for Northern ports this day at noon. A correspondent has kindly supplied us with the following details of the injuries sustained by the s.s. Taupo in grounding on the Fish Reef: —The portion of the keel under the space on which the screw plays was fractured, as was also the Ij’ver portion of the sternpost. It is generally considered by those who have examined the injury, that a wave carried the fore part of the vessel safely over the reef, while the binder partof the keel, being lower, bumped on the reef. Fortunately she was under full steam, and was thus carried over without any further damage. The colonial steamer Luna having undergone a thorough overhaul while on the Pat ent Slip in Evans Pay, came alongside the wharf yesterday afternoon.
