The rain yesterday brought the labors of our stevedores to a standstill, and the day was marked throughout by the entire absence of the usual bustle that characterises our wharves. The only vessel that made any attempt in this direction was the Neptune, which commenced to discharge cargo about the middle of the day. The Tcviotdale has discharged about three-fourths of her cargo. She has about 400 tons more, and five locomotives, still in the hold. The locomotives will be discharged as soon as she has taken in enough ballast to stiffen her, It-is intended to place her on the berth for Calcutta, which place she is expected to make in time for the cotton season. A telegram from Wanganui states that the s.s. Stormbird arrived there at 9a.m. yesterday. The Halcione has about 190 tons of cargo to take out. As soon as this is done, she will take in loading for London, and have quick despatch. The s.s. Easby, Captain Kennedy, from Newcastle, is hourly expected. The Dilawur has discharged all her cargo between decks, and will push forward the discharge of the cargo in the lower holds as fast as the weather will permit. , .... • The schooner Ruby. Captain Dalton, arrived m Wellington harbor yesterday morning at 11.30. She left Kaikoura the previous evening at 10.30, and experienced a strong S.W. breeze, with heavy weather, ' during the passage. .
