RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

[ Monday, September 6. (Before J. C. Crawford, Esq., R.M.) DRUNKENNESS. George Kendry, James Ritchie, Ellen Wade, and Johu Thompson were each represented on the charge-sheet as inebriates. George Kendry did not put in an appearance, and thereby forfeited his bail. The others were disposed of according to their deserts. THREATENING LANGUAGE. William Robinson was charged with using threatening language towards James Guilford. Complainant proved the case, and defendant was bound over to keep the peace for six months, himself in £lO, and one surety of £lO. REFUSING TO DO DUTY. George Silburg and John Kennedy were charged with refusing to do duty on board the barque Jane Spiers. Both prisoners pleaded guilty, but considered they were justified in refusing duty, as they had shipped by the run, not by the month, and the ship having started on her return voyage, and then put back, they looked upon their engagement as completed, and would not work in harbor unless they were paid for it. O. 0. Biers, captain of the Jane Spiers, produced the articles of the two men. The men had shipped by the run, having refused to be shipped by the month. The ship would only be detained about four weeks. They would get to Newcastle in three weeks, and the men would then get four weeks' wages. His Worship informed the men they were not justified in the course they had adopted, since an uuforseen accident might at any time compel a ship to put in for repairs. He therefore remanded them until their ship should be ready for sea. CIVIL CASES. In the following cases judgmentswere given for plaintiffs, for amounts claimed and costs:— T. J. Litchfield v. C. J. Pownall, claim £3 ss. 6d.; 11. A. Edwin v. T. Roache, claim £SO. A case, D. Rankin v. Cohen, was adjourned. M. J. Synues v. J. G. Lee. Summons not served. J. Guilford v. M. Phillips and S. Phillips, claim of 6u. To be issue for Monday next.
