PILOT SERVICE.
TO TILE EDITOR. OK THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sir, —In this day’s paper I saw a complaint from Captain Louttit respecting the pilotage arrangements of tliia port. ’From the same thing having occurred to me on arrival, I think in justice to shipmasters arriving hero and paying pilotage dues, whether any services are rendered or not, as in my case, I consider the following facts ought to be made public. On August 22nd tt 2.30 a.m., burnt flash light for pilot and continued doing so until daylight, when I hoisted a jack, kept it flying until passed all danger, when I caused It to bo hauled down. When considerably past the pilot station saw a boat put off towards fcs, but the barometer being 29 - 10 and every indication of bad weather, I proceeded on without accepting the pilot's services, and anchored at 11 a.m. in Lambtonharbor.—l am., Ciias. 0. Beer, Master barque Jano Spiers. Wellington, August 30. •
