The departure at the advertised time of the Kiwi was unavoidably postponed until this day at noon. The s.s. Rangatira, Captain Griffiths, arrived from her usual East Coast trip yesterday at 5 p.m. - She left Poverty Bay at 4 p.m. on Friday, 27th ; passed Table Cape at 8 p.m., and arrived off Napier at 8.30 a.m. next morning; left again at 12.30 p.m. for Wellington : passed the Kidnappers at 2.20 p.m., and rounded Cape Palliser at 11,45 a.m. on the 29th, arriving as above. She experienced from Poverty Bay to Napier a fre3h gale from the S.S.W., with heavy cross sea; and from there to the Heads a fresh breeze from the S.W., with smooth water. ARRIVAL OF THE RODNEY. The Rodney, a large new iron clipper, under the • command of Captain Alexander Louttit, dropped anchor in Wellington Harbor after a splendid run of Tl days and 12 hdurs from London to this port. The ship left the Downs on the 7th of June, and on the 9th of the same month landed the pilot at Start Point. At noon on the 10th of June the ship passed the Lizard Point at a distance of five miles, the point having a bearing of N. by AV., with a westerly wind. On June 18 the ship sighted Madeira, and on July 17 crossed the Line. On July 23 the ship rounded the Cape, and at twelve noon of August 27 made Cape Farewell, making the passage, as above-stated, in 77 days 12 hours. While crossing the Southern Indian Ocean the ship experienced the prevailing winds of the season. On June 16, while in 41deg. 42min. S. * lat and 12deg. 7min. W. longitude, the ship spoke the Carisbrooke Castle, which signalled that she was bound from Belfast to Wellington (tie), and on August 14 spoke the Halcione, from London to Wellington. Captain Louttit has had great experience fa the passenger trade, and speaki in high praise of Dr. Harris, the surgeon of the ship. He says he has never had a doctor (and he has had many who have accompanied him in his .yanou< voyages) who has taken more interest and worked so hard to carry out the rules of the Government than Dr. Harris, and that the General good health of the passengers may be attributed in no small degree to his efforts, while his urbanity evoked the cordial cooperation of the passengers. A testimonial was presented to Captain Louttit. signed by all the heads of families and all the single men and women, representing 508 souls, setting forth the high esteem which they entertained towards him, both in his capacity as commander of the ship and as a gemlcrnan. In reference to our local pilotage arrangements, the captain makes the following statement:—The Rodney arrived oft Cape Terawiti, on Saturday afternoon at 5 o'clock, and was abreast of the lighthouse at 7.30 p.m. A number of blue lights were burned as signals for the pilot, but they remained unanswered. The ship was thus compelled to hang-off till daybreak, as the wind was out of the harbor. When daylight broke, the lighthouse bore N.l''., distance about six miles. The pilot did not come on board til! between halfpast ten and eleven. The wind was still out of the harbor, and so the ship had to beatln. When just through the narrow part of the channel, the wind and tide dropped. The ship was compelled to employ a steamer (the Rangatira), and so incurred an unnecessary expense, because had the ship been signalled either on Saturday night or early yesterday morning, fnd the pilot boarded early, time and expense would

have been saved. The captain who has been engaged for many years in the South Austrahan trade, has never met with such a want of proper pilot service. There were six births on the voyage, three girls and \ three boys. The following is a list of the births:— July 9 Mrs. Fitzgerald, of a son i July 11, Mrs. Noon, of a son - July 17. The following notice to mariners, received from the Postmaster at Brisbane, is published for general information. William H. Reynolds. masthead island and detached reef. Error in Position. The correct position of Masthead Island and the detached reef has been ascertained by Staff Commander Bedwell, R.N., the Admiralty Surveyor, to be 3 miles W. by S. from that assigned to it upon the present charts; thus narrowing the channel between Cape Capricorn and the detached reef by that distance. G. P. Heath, Commander R.N., Portmaster. Department of Ports and Harbors, Brisbane, 27th July, 1875. .
