A private telegram received in Wellington conveys the information that all damage sustained by the Taieri section of the Clutha railway will be repaired by the beginning of next week, and that the line will be opened for traffic on the Ist of September. We notice that in answer to a numerously signed requisition, which appears in another column, Mr. Lewis Moss has consented to permit himself to be placed in nomination for re-election to the City Council. A laboring man named William Osborne while working on the wharf yesterday accidentally fell over the wharf on to one of the stringers. He was immediately conveyed to the hospital, where he received prompt medical assistance. Though in much pain, it is not anticipated that serious consequences will ensue.

A football match will be played at 2.30 sharp this afternoon, at the Albion ground, between the team of the Wellington Football Club and that of the Armed Constabulary Club.

The following telegram was received yesterday from Grahamstown : Last night a meeting of miners was held at Tairua, against the Provincial Government, and in favor of abolition. The following resolutions were passed : —First resolution: “That this meeting views with alarm and indignation the great indifference shown by the Provincial Government towards new goldfields, and is of opinion that the time has arrived when the effete system of provincialism should be abolished.” Second resolution; “That this meeting earnestly requests the General Government to carry out the abolition scheme before the dissolution of the Assembly, and at the same time to place a sufficient sum on the Estimates to construct a dray road from Tairua to Shortland.” An amendment was proposed, but met with no support. There was a large attendance at the meeting.
