A telegram appears in another column contradicting one to which we gave publicity on Saturday. The telegram is from the Mayor of Invercargill to Mr. Outhbertson, M.H.R., and decisively states that the report of a meeting of people of the Longbush, Invercargill, and Mataura districts and its result against abolition was a myth ! Coming as this latter telegram does from such a source as the Mayor of Invercargill, it can hardly be denied credence. Should it prove that we have given publicity to a report without foundation, we shall regret having unintentionally made our columns the means of publishing a misstatement.
