A PERSONAL EXPLANATION.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sir,— Several persons have verbally attributed to me the letter over signature "Censor,” in your paper of the 10th, criticising the now Stamp Bill, and I see by a letter to-day, signed “Eocensor," that some motive is insinuated. Will you allow me to say that I am not the writer of the letter in question of “ Censor," that I do not know who is, and that I have not yet seen tli6 Bill which it criticises. It is a striking proof how rampant in this colony is the gigantic evil of personal influence and clique Government, when no opinion can bo expressed and no criticism made on any public matter without the mputation of personal motives.—l am. &c., 1 J. H. Shaw. August 21.
