RANGITIKEI HIGHWAY BOARD.

(FROSI ODR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) The usual monthly meeting of the Kangitikei Highway Board was held in the office, Marton, on Saturday last. Present —Messrs. G. Y. Lethbridge (chairman), Dr. Curl, A. Cameron, A. Milne, C. M. Galpin, and ft. K. Simpson. The minutes of the previous meeting were read, amended, and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. The Secretary read the following correspondence : Letter from C. H. Borlase, Esq., in answer to certain questions submitted to him for his opinion. Letter from Mr. Charles Cameron, stating that as the Board had not complied with the arrangement made with Mr. Thorns, the Board's Inspector, in reference to the road running through his property, he will now charge at the rate of £6 per acre for all the land taken for the same. Letter from Messrs. James and Robert Mcßetli, applying for a gate as an outlet from their property to the Tutaenui-road, to accommodate Mr. Snellgrove and others until the road to connect with the Tutaenui liue is laid off. INSPECTOR'S REPORT. The Inspector read his usual monthly report on the works in progress, or required, in the several wards. BUSINESS. It was resolved that the Inspector be authorised to deal with Messrs. Mcßeth in regard to the gate in question. It was resolved that the Inspector be empowered to deal with the sale of gates standing on the Makirikiri-road. It was resolved that the Inspector be empowered to deal with Mr. Walker in reference to putting the gate on the line between Mm and Mr. Griffin in a proper state of repair. It was resolved that the Secretary be instructed to notify Mr. Glasgow that the Board will take immediate steps to get the portion of road cut off by the deviation made over to him. It was resolved that the Inspector have power to deal with Major Willis in respect of road from McHardie's to the Tutaenui-road. It was resolved that the Inspector be authorised to lay off the line to the liangitikei River, through Major Willis' property. It was resolved that the Inspector be empowered to make arrangements to get Williamson's line cleared of scrub. At this stage the Board adjourned for an hour. On resuming, in the absence of Mr. Lethbridge, Mr. A. Milne was voted to the chair. It was resolved that the Turakina Valley road through Mr. McGregor's property be laid off without delay, in terms of the Act. It was resolved that the road through the properties of Messrs. Cameron and McKay be left to the operation of the Highway Boards Empowering Act. It was resolved that the Inspector be authorised to lay off a line of road to connect section No. 225 with the Turakina Valley road. It was resolved that the Inspector be empowered to lay off a line of road from Mr. McGregor's, in Turakina Valley road, through sections 230, 251, 252, and leading on to 205. It was resolved that a line of road be laid off and opened from from the Tutaenui line to the cliff road, through Messrs. Mcßeth's, Mead's, Fitzherbert's, G. Death's, Bartlett's, and H. Death'B properties. It was resolved that the sum of £lO be placed at the disposal of the Warden and Inspector towards improving the Tutaenui ford on the line of road just decided ou. It was resolved that Messrs. Milne, Galpin, and the Inspector be appointed to examine and decide upon a line of road to connect the Tutaenui with the Fern Plat road.

Mr. Newman having applied in person for a right of road to his property, It was resolved that the necessary steps be taken at an early date to lay off a road to provide Mr. Newman with a right-of-way. It was resolved that the member for the district be applied to, to obtain for the Board a copy of the Land Clause Consolidation Act, and of the Land Clause Consolidation Act Amendment Act. It was resolved that Mr. Lethbridge be allowed 2s. 6d. per chain for clearing flax, scrub, toi-toi, &c, off both sides of the road, while clearing the furze from the same, between Mr. Simpson's western boundary and Mrs. Gower's eastern boundary, and that the same be notified at once to Mr. Lethbridge. TENDERS. The following tenders were then opened and considered :—For side and through cuttings near Nesbit's—John Nesbit, £sl 10s. (accepted) ; Robert Cook, £55 (declined). For side cutting on Union line near Mr. Glasgow's —Hugo Newman, at 40s. per chain. This was the only tender, and as the Inspector considered it a fair price for the work required to be done, it was accepted. AMENDMENT OV RATEBOOK. It was resolved that the solicitor's opinion be carried out respecting the division of Messrs. Cameron and Simpson's properties, and that they be assessed in the ratebook separately. ELECTION OP WARDENS. It was resolved that the chairman take the necessary steps for the election of wardens after the 27th inst. ACCOUNTS. The following accounts were passed for payment:—James Pollett, £2 10s.; "YV. C. Watkins, £6 125.; J. Bolton, £6 18s.; Sylvester, £6 125.; A. Cameron, £3 45.; C. Thomas, £SO; Pain, £6 18s.; Hancock, £S 95.; Sutherland, £3 35.; W.Nichol, £3 35.; W. Clarke, £5 175.; proprietor Advocate, £3 155.; Harris, £5 10s.; Thomas, £1 10s. ; Crawford, £1 10s. ; Polgreen, £2l; Snellgrove, £1 155.; Nevil, £7 145.; Lee, £5 Bs.; petty cash, £1 14s. 6d.; Krutz, £3 35.; Ingram, £10; Hall, £3; Field, £1 16s. Total, £169 Is. 6d. The meeting then adjourned until Saturday, 4th September, at half-past 10 o'clock.
