BY TELEGRAPE. AUCKLAND, Tuesday. All hopes are abandoned by the owner of the schooner Dauntless, which left Moeraki for Wellington on 10th July. She was insured in the New Zealand Insurance Company for £IOOO. Captain Poulson leaves a wife and family in Auckland, A mate, «. rxTxc-x -K^txzclsiS±siisJbf' n jrdx^x*v,j . Arrived: Taupo, s.s. The schooner Maid of Otago, from Picton, bound for Oamam, put in here, there being a heavy sea off that port. NELSON, Tuesday. Sailed: Hawea, s.s., at 3 p.m., for Taranaki and Manukau. Passengers: Mrs. Rarikes, Messrs. Donald, Paine, Haymer, Simon, three Maoris, and 27 original. NAPIER, Tuesday. The Rangatira got away this morning for Poverty Bay. She has been delayed since Friday, there being only sft. of water on the bar. The Herald calls attention to the necessity of the Harbor Improvements Bill being pushed on this session. The s.s. Wellington arrived yesterday morning at 7 o’clock, having left Onehunga at 2 p ra. on the 7th inst. ; reached Taranaki on the following morning : arrived at Nelson on Sunday ; left again on the 9th at 1 p.m., reaching Picton at 9.30 p.m., thus making a run between these two ports in 8£ hours against a strong headwind and sea, Leftagain at 2.25 a.m. yesterday, and arrived as above, doing the distance under five hours. Experienced rather rough weather with strong northerly bree2e. She has on board one of the four steam launches built in Auckland for the Government. It is similar to the one here. The s.s. Egmont left Wanganui at 2 30 on Monday afternoon, and arrived at 3 o’clock yesterday morning. The s.s. Stormbird left Wanganui at the same time as the Egmont, and reached the wharf at 2.30 a.m. Just half an hour before the Egmont. Experienced fine weather till arrival. The steamers Wellington and Easby both left for the South yesterday afternoon. There will, no doubt, be a race between them. The two ships Hannibal and Lammershagen, which have been lying in the stream for some time back, left yesterday morning early. The former has cleared out at the Customs for Newcastle, and the latter for Navigator’s Island. The barque signalled on Monday, and supposed to be the Crusader from New York via Dunedin, is still anchored at the Heads. She will, no doubt, come up the harbor to-day. The s.s. Phcehe left yesterday for the North. The s.s. Wellington will proceed to Auckland as soon as she has made her present Southern trip, where she will be fitted with a new boiler.
The s.s. Wellington conveys the second of the new Government steam launches to Dunedin. It is built on the same model as the one in use in our port. It was stowed on the bridge of the steamer.
