On Saturday an easterly gale was experienced in the North, and fresh winds from the eastward, with considerable sea, were prevalent on the Eastern coast. The weather here during the past three days has been very fine and clear, and mostly calm. The Easby left Sydney on the 31st ult. at 8 p.m. Experienced strong easterly winds, with heavy head sea, all the way to Stephen Island. Sighted Cape Farewell on the 7th at 10 a.m.; arrived at the wharf at 5 a.m. yesterday. Had fine weather from Stephen’s Island till arrival. e have been requested by Captain Kennedy to contradict the rumor current regarding the_ extent of the damage sustained by the Easby during the rough weather she experienced previous to her putting back to Sydney. The captain very courtously showed us the damage really done to the vessel. It consists of the loss of a board about 6in. wide and 20ft. long, which covered the working gear belonging to the winch He put back because the heavy ironbark logs, which weighed at least a ton each, caused the vessel to labor. All the fruit stowed on the hatches was washed overboard. She brings 600 tons coal and 175 tons general cargo for this port. The s s. Taupo left Onehunga at 11.20 a.m. on the 4th and cleared the bar at 1 p.m., arriving at h.ew Plymouth at 7 a.m. next day; sailed at 3.30 p.m. same day. Reached Nelson at 7 a.m. on the 6th; left same tide at 11.40 a.m., and arrived at Picton at 6.15 p.m.; left again at 8.45 p.m. and reached the wharf at 1.30 a.m. on Saturday. Experienced fine easterly weather, with smooth sea, throughout. , , . The p s. Manawatu arrived at the wharf at three o’clock on Saturday afternoon, having left Wanganui at twelve o’clock on Friday night. She weather throughout the trip. . , The schooner Reliance from estport arrived on Saturday, after a passage of eleven days. She experienced very heavy weather during the voyage. The p.s. Lyttelton left Blenheim at half-past 8 o’clock on Saturday morning, reaching the wharf at 4.15p.m. same day. * .. ... . The Star of the South left Dunedin on the 4th at 4.45 p.m., and reached Lyttelton at 9.45 p.m. on the sth ; sailed again at 3 p.m. on the 6th, and arrived at the. wharf at 10 o'clock yesterday morning. The ketch Falcon left Blenheim on Saturday morning, and arrived in harbor yesterday at 12 noon. She bad light winds and calms.
