RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Wednesday, August 4. (Before J. C. Crawford, Esq., R.M.) DRUNK AND DISORDERLY AND ASSAULTING THE POLICE. Sydney Richards and John Gundy were charged as above. Mr. Allan appeared for the defendants. The arresting constable stated that while standing at McDowell’s corner he heard a noise in the direction of the Union Hotel, and on proceeding there, he found the prisoners kicking at the door of the hotel. Witness remonstrated with them, when they called him some opprobrious names. One of the prisoners got hold of him by the shoulder and gave him a shaking, and then knocked him against the side of Anderson’s house. As ho was on the way to procure assistance the prisoners followed and called upon him to arrest them. One of the defendants walked into the station, the other remaining outside. One of them attempted to strike the constable as he was searching them. At this stage of the proceedings Mr. Allan applied for a remand. Remanded till 11 o’clock to-day. DRUNK AND INCAPABLE. Arthur Lyle for this offence was fined Ds., with the alternative of 24 hours’ imprisonment. There were no civil cases.
