Akt.ivex> : Canterbury, from Picton : Marmion, from Kaipara ; Star of the South, from Wellington. By yesterday morning the barometer had fallen about half an inch, and the winds were generally strong from the northward in all parts of the colony. A short but heavy sea was running at Oamaru, and the bar at Westpbrt was reported as having a heavy sea on. The general appearance of the weather yesterday showed that a westerly gale was probably near. In consequence of the Hawea being detained through losing the tide at Nelson, the race between her and the Albion did not come off. As one of the boats belonging to H.M.S. Dido was sailing towards the wharf it was caught in a squall, which carried away the mast. The s.s. Albion took her departure for Melbourne, via The Bluff, yesterday at 2 p.m. : Owing to the strong gale which prevailed all yesterday, none of the vessels which had cleared out at Customs could get away. -The N.Z.S.S. Co.'s s.s. Wellington arrived last night at 7.45. She left Port Chalmers on the 20th at 4 p.m., and proceeded under easy steam to Oamaru, reaching that place at midnight: loaded a full cargo, and left next day at 6.80 o.m.
