WELLINGTON JOCKEY CLUB.
Sib,—ln reply to "Breeder's" letter In reference to there being no hurdle race Introduced In the programme for the next Hutt Spring Meeting, I would beg to inform that gentleman that the stewards of the Wellington Jockey Club, after taking into consideration the small number of entries that have been made for such races for years past, and the still smaller number of starters for the same, did not feci justified In offering any prize for a hurdle raco at tho ensuing meeting, and therefore substituted a flat race in lieu thereof. " Breeder" must bear in mind that the stewards are only the representatives of tho public who subscribe to tho races, and undor such circumstances it is their duty to use judicious care in oxpending the funds of tho club, as also in catering to the best advantage for thoso gentlemen who so liberally come forward as supporters of the Wellington Jockey Club. However, I have no doubt if '' Breeder " could hold forth sufficient inducement, the stewards would reconsider tho matter, and most probnfbly meet with the views expressed in his letter.—l am, &C Geo. H. Jackson, Secretary W.J.C.
