TELEGRAPHIC NEWS.
(from ook own correspondent.) Auckland, Friday. The Thames Investment Company's report to-day showed that out of all their interests on the goldfields only £423 had been received in dividends, while the expenditure, calls, new investments, &c, exceed £9OOO. The overdraft at the bank is £SOOO. The Thames volunteers intend to make an effort to secure the representation of New Zealand at the great rifle contest to be held at Philadelphia. It is proposed to send four representatives. A meeting to consider the matter is to be held to-night. (PER PRESS AGENCY.) Auckland, Friday. The Phoebe yesterday took the first Government steam launch for Wellington. Those for Dunedin and Ohristchurch probably go next trip by the same steamer. Mr. Creighton, M.H.R., telegraphed to his proposer and seconder, asking whether the Eden constituency favored immediate abolition, or thought the question should go to the constituencies. They replied that the majority favored an appeal to the country. Invercaugill, Friday. - The.first Inyercargill ploughing match took place to-day, in a padjfook- to Mr. Adamson, of Chatsworth, close to' the - town. There were twenty-eight competitors, with thirteen double and fifteen single furrow ploughs. The weather was very favorable, and the match was a most decided success. About 800 people were present.
