Arrived— Mallard, Celestial Queen, Ocean Mail, and Waimate. NELSON, Thursday. Sailed: 3.30 p.m., Hawea, for Picton and Wellington. Passengers Prom Nelson : Mr. and Mrs. Whyte, Miss Hayns, Captain Webster, Dr. Boor, Judge Thomas, Messrs. Helps, .Richmond, King, Alexander, Stoleyhurst, and Williams. AUCKLAND, Thursday. Arrived: The ship Kechero, from London, after a passage of 106 days; no immigrants. The Albion and Hawea both leave to-day for the South. There will be a trial of speed between them. The p.s. Manawatu, Captain Evans, crossed the Wanganui bar at 7 a.m., and arrived at Wellington at 7.30 p.m. yesterday. Had light easterly winds during the passage. . , Yesterday an easterly gale was experienced at Russell, and brisk winds from that direction were reported from Northern stations, but there was no appearance of any such change in the weather here up to 8 p.m. of Wednesday, and from that hour until early yesterday the wind was south-east. At Tauranga, the wind changed from south-east at 9 a.m. to north-east by eleven o'clock, and soon after increased to a gale. At Port Chalmers, the wind freshened rapidly, and was blowing a gale by 11 a.m. During the day the barometer continued to fall, and the appearance Of the weather was generally threatening, with wind rising fast and increasing sea on the East Coast. The weather here was foggy and raw, with dark leaden colored sky, the wind being light and variable in direction. Rain commenced to fall steadily after 6 p.m. The s.s. Taupo arrived at the wharf yesterday morning at eight o'clock. Left Port Chalmers at 4.15 p. m. on the 27th, and cleared the Heads at 5 p.m.; arrived at Lyttelton at 9.45 a.m. on the 28th; left the same day at 4 p.m., arriving as above. Experienced light variable winds and smooth water throughout the passage. The s.s. Rangatira left last night for Napier. Messrs. McMeckan and Blackwood's fine steamer Albion cleared Port Phillip Heads at 5.15 p.m. on the 21st July, passed the Sisters at 10.45 a.m. on the 22nd inst and arrrived off Hokitika at 4 a.m. on the 27th July; left again at 3.30 p.m. same day, and arrived at Greymouth at 5.15 p.m.; left at 6.30 p.m., and arrived at Nelson at 12.30 p.m. on the 2Sth, averaging over twelve knots per hour for the entire distance from Hokitika; left Nelson at 5.30 same afternoon, and arrived at Wellington on the 29th inst. at 5.20 a.m. Experienced light airs and calms for the first two day s, and strong S.E. gale with heavy sea during the rest of the passage, from thence to Stephens Island light variable winds, a light S.E. breeze from there to Wellington.
