WELLINGTON JOCKEY CLUB.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sin,—l see a letter in yesterday's issue signed "Breeder," with respect to the Jockey Club and hurdle races. I quite agree with the articles advocating the breeding of jumping horses where there is a demand for them, as in the old country. As " Breeder" would by his letter wish us to think he is a good sportsman, perhaps he will allow me to ask what he has contributed, and what encouragement the W.J.G. havo received from him to continue the hurdle races ? I am as fond of hurdle racing as any man, but I think it is time that the public got some satisfaction for their money, and I am glad to find that the stewards seem to think so too, and see that reform is required after the exhibitions that have taken place. And I maintain that the stakes have been heretofore much too respectable for such, for even the ladies must have been disgusted with what (" Breeder" terms "mild jumping" races) they have witnessed, and I am glad to And that the present stewards do not intend to stand quietly by and see the money thrown away. Let "Breeder" act, and not write rubbish. Let him come forward and show the stewards that " there are many owners who have good horses that might stand a good show over fences, and mo doubt would be put in training," and prove his statements, and get his owners and horses ready for next year ; and I am sure the stewards will be only too happy to meet him and give "respectable" stakes ; and I for one will give a special subscription if "Breeder" will do the same. " Breeder" will allow me to suggest that he puts himself in communication with the stewards of the W.J.C., who, I fancy, will be happy to receive any enclosure, giving " Breeder" credit for value received; but they appear to be men who want No Humbuci.
