FREE IMMIGRATION.
The following telegrams to and from Sir Julius Vogel, re-continuing free immigration, were tabled yesterday:— POLLEN TO VOGEL. Wellington, June 8, 1875. Cabinet carefully considered your immigration proposals. Total balance now available only £400,000. Must extend expenditure over two years. This gives 13,000 immigrants a year. Distribution:—Auckland, 2200 ; Wellington, 2000 ; Taranaki, 600 ; Marlborough, Nelson, and Westland, 400 each ; Otago, 2000 ; Invercargill, 1000 ; Canterbury, 3000. Do not on any account send 25,000 this year. Direct shipment Taranaki and Invercargill necessary. Approve of other proposals. Single women much , wanted. Send immigrants ordered Westland special settlement. POLLEN TO VOGEL. Wellington, June 10, 1875. Wo are strongly of opinion that immigration should be tree. Careful Selection. VOGEL TO POLLEN. London, June 30, 1875. Accordance with your wishes instructed Featherston continue free immigration.
