The Republican party in Prance is engaged in drawing up a list of candidates for the Seventy-five seats in the newly created Senate which the National Assembly will have the power of filling. The Legitimist party appeal's to count on a large number of its members being elected in the departments of the south, centre, anti west. M. Rouher has, it is said, received the assurance of being elected in Corsica, and the Duke D’Aumalo will, it is | thought, be appointed to the Oise. M. Thiers has received a number of offers of nomination, and it is believed that he will accept them. Miss Thompson, the painter of “ The Roll ! Call,” who awoke one morning and found herself famous, has completed another military subject, “ The Twenty-eighth Regiment at Quatre Bras.” The picture, which represents the last effort of the French at about five o’clock in the afternoon of the eventful day, is remarkable for the variety of character delineated in the faces of the men forming the square, and the excellent grouping of so many figures within so small a space.
