CLASSIC RHYME.
It is an Ancient Governor, . Now Super and M.P. “By thy long grey board, and thy cold grey eye. Say, what is the matter with thee f The Assembly doors are opened wide. And thou hast gotten in. The members are there, and Sir Bell in the chair, O pray go in and win.” But still he winks a cold grey eye ; “Twice twelve years’since,” quoth he “ Nay, if thou’st got a laughsome tale, Governor ! tell it mo. ” “In eighteen fifty 1 prepared And posted to Earl Grey A Constitution for this place, Perfect in every way. Eevetsible for sun or shower. Proof against all mishaps. Cure of all ills ; unrivalled by Wolfe’s Aromatic Schnapps 1” At this I start, and boat my breast, Yet cannot cboose but hear. And thus spake on that Ancient Man Tho grey-eyed Governor. “Crown, Parliament, and Supers top. While Councils came below AVheels, balance, escapement, springs, arranged Each in its grade to go. When it came back from Downing-street Marked ‘ This sido up with care.' Tho ship was cleared, tho people cheered. And shouted everywhere.” “ God bless thee, Ancient Governor ! Why look’st thou sof Oh say.” “ I turned it bottom upwards, and To England wont away.”
