BY TBLEGJIABH. PORT CHALMERS, Friday. Arrived : Easby and Taranaki, from Lyttelton. They were detained on the passage from that port by a fresh gale from S.E., with a heavy sea —Union Corapanv’s s.s. Taupe, 461 tons. She left Glasgow on 30th April, and cleared this land on.the following cay; called at St. Vincent on 11th, coA.ed and left on 12th, and crossed the Equator on the 19th May; rounded Cape of Good Hope on Ist June, and made S.W. Cape on morning of Ist July, arriving at Port Chalmers at 11 a.m. to-day. She brings six saloon and seventeen second-class passengersHOKITIKA, Friday. Through Captain McLean’s courtesy, the Otago waited till this morning, when she was tendered, and sailed for Melbourne. TIMARTT, Friday, Arrived ; Czarewicb, barque, from Melbourne, with piles for Paeora bridge. ... The gale on Wednesday did no damage to shipping, but swamped surfboats with 100 bags of wheat. The ketch Forest Queen and the schooner Cleopatra put to sea. Other crafts rode out the gale. The Customs revenue for the port of Timaru, for the June quarter, was £6329. Corresponding quarter, 3874, £5750. AUCKLAND, Friday. Sira, late mate of the Albion, whaler, fell overboard from the cutter Rob Roy, and was drowned. LYTTELTON, Friday. Arrived t Hadda and Alarm, from Newcastle. Sailed ; Fleur de Maurice, for Newcastle. NEWCASTLE SHIPPING. Sailed ; 24th ult., Hcversham, for Wellington, with 700 tons coal. The arrival of the pioneer vessel of the Union Company’s line of steamers has been followed by the second vessel, viz., the Taupo, which arrived at Port Chalmers yesterday morning. The Taupo is a sister ship to the Hawea in every respect, being built by the same firm, viz., Messrs. Denny and Co., of Dumbarton. As evidencing the faithful manner in which both vessels were built on the same model, it is curious to note that the Hawea and Taupo made the run from Glasgow to Port Chalmers, including detentions at the Cape and St. Vincent, in sixty-two days. The Taupo may be expected here in about a fortnight from hence. .. A , The s.s. Ladybird sailed at noon yesterday xor Northern Ports, via Picton and Nelson. There were a number of the public on the wharf to witness the departure of the Wellington Football Team, who proceeded as far as Nelson by the Ladybird. The steamers Stormbird and Egmont sailed yesterday, the former for Wanganui and the latter for Foxton. The barque Harriet Armitage hauled from the wharf yesterday, and dropped down to the fairway. A number of vessels, viz, the brig Robin Hood, barque Harriet Armitage, and schooners Jessie Niccol and Rose of Eden, are awaiting for a favorable change of weather. A tremendous sea was running at the Heads yesterday, making it impossible for any vessel to attempt to beat out against it, although it is a leading wind for the Harriet Armitage and Robin Hood, who are bound for Newcastle. The topsail schooner which arrived on night proved to be the Endeavor from Oamaru and Kakanui, with a cargo of grain. Captain Dick reports leaving Oamaru, on the night of the 25th, and experiencing strong easterly weather until passing Banks Peninsula; from the Kaikouras got a strong southerly gale, accompanied by a very heavy sea, which continued until arrival. The Endeavor is, nearly a new vessel, and belongs to the port of Oamaru, being owned by Messrs. J. andT. Meek, millers, who purchased her about twelve months ago. The Endeavor was launched at Brisbane, and is built of red gum or iron-wood, and Australian beech. She is copper fastened, and thoroughly trenailed throughout. Captain Dick reports that she is a fine weatherly craft at sea, possessing at the same time good sailing qualities. This is hir first appearance in this port, but we must congratulate her owners in possessing such a serviceable craft, being another addition to the already fine mosquito fleet belonging to this dolony. The s s. Albion took her departure for Melbourne, via The Bluff, at 2 p m. yesterday, carrying the outward Suez mail Her passenger list was smaller than usual, and she was very light, having but few exports from hero. ___
