EDUCATION BOARD.

Thursday, June .24. The committee appointed by the Board to dispose of a quantity of unimportant routine business met at 11.30. Present—Messrs. Pharazyn (in the chair), Bunny, and Lowes. FIREWOOD SUPPLY. It was decided that the Board contribute one cord of wood per annum for each fireplace in the various schools, any further firing that might be required to be found by the teacher out of his capitation allowance. GREYTOWN. It was determined that the alterations in the teachers' residences previously resolved on by the Boar,d .be proceeded with; the Inspector, Mr. Lee, having reported that the teacher, as well as the local committee, approved of the same. Mr. Peyton having forwarded his resignation as member of the local committee, and recommended that Mr. Caselberg be appointed in his place, the. Secretary was instructed to write to that effect to Mr. Hastwell, and ask him to nominate a third person to act with them. MATAONGAONGA. On the recommendaion of the Inspector, Mr. Shield was appointed a member of the local committee. WEST MASTERTON. Mr. Holmes Crayne having written along letter on the subject of the deficient accommodation at the school here, the Secretary'was instructed to write and ask Mr. Crayne to confer with Mr. Lowes, the member for the district, on the subject. WIIAREKAKA. An application having been received from the local committee that this school be put on full time, the members having increased greatly of late, the Secretary was instructed to write to the effect that the Board fully agreed in the desirableness of the change, and would endeavor to carry the same into effect as soon as the various buildings were completed and arrangements could be made for supplying the other school. FOXTON RESERVES.' An offer to lease section 325, being considered too low, was declined.'; TURAKINA. It was decided that the Board contribute one half towards the expense of the erection of the chimney to the church vestry, the same being granted for the use of classes during the winter, and that tenders be called for the erection of a schoolhouse on the Board's property. ■•■ ■•-'■'-■'■'' ■' It waß decided to accept a tender of £235 for the erection of a teacher's residence; also a tender to fence in the school ground for £2O.

MAKARA. The Secretary stated that he had been offered the Karori Hall, a new building about 18 x 26, with a quarter of an acre of land, for S£9o, and that for the sum of £57 10s. he could have it removed to the proposed site at Makara, and have a chimney built. As this was considerably under what a new schoolroom could be built for, it was decided to accept the offer ; and the Secretary was authorised to complete the purchase, provided a lease of the required site could be obtained from the church trustees. JIOROA RESERVE. Mr. J. Kempton's offer to lease the school was declined as being too low. WAINGAWA. The local committee was authorised to have the school ground fenced. ADVANCES to teachers. Advances of a month's salary were made to several teachers, such advances to be repaid in instalments. TRAVELLING EXPENSES. Mr. J. Heaty, recently transferred from Denlaid to Matarawa, having sent in a claim for £7 175., travelling the same was allowed. FEATHERSTON. On the recommendation of the Inspector it was resolved to appoint Mrs. Gulliver as assistant mistress at a salary of £SO per annum ; the continuance of the appointment to be contingent on the average attendance being maintained at the requisite number as required by the regulations. JIARTON. It was resolved that spouting be put up around the Marton Bchoolhouse, and that a proper tank be supplied for the use of the children. NEW DESKS. It was decided to accept the tender of Mr. Henderson for the supply of desks to a number of new schools, as recommended by the Inspector and in accerdanee with his plans. ■ The meeting then adjourned till 30th inst., for the purpose of opening tenders for the new school at johnsonville and teacher's residence at the Upper Hutt.
