The Colonial Government P.s. Luna arrived from Nelson with his Excellency the Governor and suite at 10.30 a.m. yesterday. The Luna left Nelson at 12 10 p.m. on the 22nd, and anchored in the French Pass at 4.15 p.m. ; left the Pass at 11 p.m. same night: experienced light winds and smooth sea until arrival in harbor. The Luna will proceed to Wanganui in a few days with the two locomotives just finished at the Lion Foundry for the Manawatu tramway. The s.s. Ino left for Picton yesterday afternoon with a general cargo and one passenger—Captain Johnston. The Star of the Sea, schooner, sailed for Havelock last night with a cargo of railway iron for the Havelock tramway. The s.s. Stormbird took her departure for V. anganui with a general cargo and several passengers. The s.s. Egmont left yesterday afternoon for Foxton. ... The s.s. Napier is laid up for painting, Sc. She will resume her running to Foxton on Saturday next. The clipper brig Neptune is advertised to sail for Newcastle on Friday, the 25th. The barque William Ackers sailed yesterday afternoon for Newcastle. The ship Hannibal commenced to break bulk yesterday morning. The barque Harriet Armitage came np from the fairway yesterday morning. She shortly afterwards commenced discharging her cargo of breadstuffs. . The Government yesterday morning detained the liangatira (already delayed until that day for adjustment of compasses) until to-day, to take the Napier portion of the San Francisco mail. Consequently, the Rangatira did not leave yesterday, as intended. But it now turns out that the Go-Ahead, from Auckland, took the Napier mails, so that the customary official muddle has not been neglected. In connection with this, it may be noticed that some people exercise such a singular economy in regard to truth that even the statement we have made became the foundation for a little fiction last night. On dit that the barque Edwin Fox, which was here some time ago, has been sold in Newcastle. The price is not definitely known, but it is supposed to be aboaf£Booo.
