AN EXPLANATION.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE XEW ZBALAXD TIMES. Sib,—l noticed in your columns a report of the finding of a dead body near my store at Palmerston, not Kangitikei as reported, and as some misconception may arise concerning nay connection with the occurrence, I should be obliged if yon would afford space in your columns for the following correct statement, as given in evidence at tho inquest, and with the finding of the jury thereon.. On Sunday morning, June Gtn, my assistant found the body of a man lying by the side of tho fence. The night and morning had been very stormy, and my assistant seeing a portion of the fence fall, went towards it, and under it found the body. Life, however, must have been extinct some hours previously, a 3 the corpse was stiff. The body wns identified as that of Charles Neerman, a Dane, and it was proved that he had been in a state of intoxication during the afternoon of the previous day, and that he had gone into my store late on the same evening being then under the influence of drink. It appeared that the deceased must, after leaving the store have lain down under the fence, where bis body was found on the following morning. The verdict of the jury was—" That Charles Neerman was found dead on the Cth of June, in a street at Palmerston, in tho Colony of New Zealand, having died from exposure, whilst lying in the open air during a most inclement night, in astateof intoxication." Apologising for trespassing upon your valuable space.—l am &c, S. Abrahams. Palmerston, 13th June.
