The Luna arrived at noon, having missed the Phoebe. She sailed again for Wellington immediately. . The Hannibal immigrants were landed this morning. Sailed: Tararua, for Melbourne via West Coast. The Bluet 1 , Thursday. The barquentine Fairlie, bound for Canterbury, passed The Bluff late on the 9th. She wished to be reported. GREYMOUTH, Thursday. AnKrvED: The schooner Fiery Cross, from Lyttelton. She experienced very heavy weather during the voyage, and in Cook Strait encountered a northerly gale which threw the vessel on her beam ends, carrying away the jibboom and port sails. PORT CfTALMEBS, Thursday. Arrived: Star of the South, s.s., from Lyttelton. The p.s. Luna arrived from Kelson at 11 o'clock last night, having been unsuccessful in catching the Phoebe at Stephens' Island, as it was intended she should have done. This failure cannot be attributed to Captain Fairchild, as he faithfully carried out his instructions, which were to meet the Phoebe at Stephens' Island, but through some mismanagement on the part of the authorities, who could not have sent definite instructions by telegraph to Captain Worsp at Nelson, as if they had done so this contretemps would not have happened. Captain Fairchild reports that on arriving at Stephens' Island on Wednesday night he burnt blue lights cveryfifteen minutes for the purpose of attracting the Phoebe's attention, and the night being very clear, a steamer's lights would have been discernible at a distance of ten miles. The Phcebe's proper course in steering for Taranaki would be about fifteen miles off Stephens' Island, and had Captain Worsp received proper directions, it would have been very easy for him to have gone out of his course, and by so doing he would have lost very little time. After waiting some time at the island, and the Phcebe not approaching in sight. Captain Fairchild proceeded on to Nelson, thinking there was a likelihood of catching her there, as two things were .probable—either that she had missed the tide or had been detained at Nelson by the Government, awaiting the Luna's arrival. On the Luna's arrival at Nelson, Captain Fairchild learnt that the Phoebe had sailed, with instructions to look out for the Luna off Stephens' Island, a very vague and indefinite order, as it might imply a distance of two or twenty miles off the island. Captain Fairchild on his own responsibility then determined to go on to the Manukau with the mail, but his intentions were frustrated by not being able to get fuel, as there was no coal tobe procured in Nelson for love or money. The s.s. Napier arrived from Wanganui last evening, with a small cargo and one passenger. The schooners Anrora, Wanganui, Cora, and the cutter Wanganui, sailed for their respective destinations yesterday morning. The barque Kingdom of Italy having finished ballasting, hauled off from the wharf yesterday afternoon, and dropped down to the fairway. The s.s. Wallabi did not sail for Wanganui yesterday, as advertised, but will do so to-day. Her detention was caused partly on account of her machinery requiring slight repairs, and partly in consequence of it being her monthly inspection. The Eangatira sailed last night for the East Coast, taking a general cargo and several passengers. The 3.5. Taranaki arrived from the North early yesterday morning, after a pleasant passage- from the Manukau. She brought a number of passengers for Wellington, amongst whom were six imbeciles, shipped at Taranaki. She left for southern ports punctually at 4 p.m. yesterday. The p.s. Manawatu arrived from Wanganui yesterday morning, having experienced fine weather during the trip. She took her departure last evening for Wanganui, with a number of passengers and a general canto. The Reward, fore-and-aft schooner, arrived from Havelock yesterday afternoon, with a cargo of iimber consigned to Messrs. Waddell and Co. Captain Westlake reports leaving Havelock on last Friday, nad fine weather until arriving at Jackson's Head, when a strong S.E. gale was encountered, which compelled hlru to run to Titirangi Bank for shelter. Laid thero until Tuesday afternoon, when he left, arriving as above. The shooner Saucy Lass and the ketch Jane Elkin arrived yesterday from Havelock, with cargoes of timber consigned to Messrs. Greenfield and Stewart.
