Ladybird, Captain Andrew,, arrived from the North at 7 a.m. on Saturday, bringing a small cargo and several passengers. We are indebted to Mr. Dougherty, purser, for a report of the passage and other favors. She left the Manukau at 8.40 a.m. on the 2nd; arrived at Taranaki at 8 a.m. on the 3rd; sailed at 10 a.m. same day, arriving at Nelson at 6.30 a.m. on the 4th ; left again at 9.35 a.m., and arrived at Picton at 5.40 p.m.; sailed from Picton at 0.40 a.m. on the sth, arriving in harbor as above. The Ladybird did not sail for Lyttelton at midnight on Saturday as Intended, in consequence of the strong southerly gale which sprang up shortly after 10 p.m. on Saturday, and continued with unabated and increased violence during the whole of yesterday. Shortly before 12 o'clock last night, however, the wind moderated. Heavy rain fell without intermission during the whole day. It was Captain Andrew s intention to sail between 6 and 7 o’clock this morning. provided the elements were propitious. ... Later in the day the yacht sank, having got swamped with the heavy rains and the sea, which made clean breaches over her.
