Betting—Even against Lurline, 4 and 5 to 1 against Stella, 6 to 1 against Eraternite', Gloom, and Nunnery. There was a good start, Barmaid and Lucretia showing in front. Lurline was slow in getting away, hut entering the rails she took an inside position, and improved that position as they approached the stand, where Lucretia led Barmaid by half a length, Stella being third, Lurline fourth, Fratemitd on the extreme right, next. Lucretia and Barmaid went away with a long lead, but Lucretia soon shot her bolt, Lurline and Gloom taking second and third positions as they ran along the back of the course. Davis was niggling at Gloom, and on the rise of the hill Barmaid drew slightly away from Lurline, and loud cries proclaimed Barmaid’s success, but Donnelly then drew the whip to Lurline, and just touched her with it, and then shaking it at her, she responded gamely, caught Barmaid at the end of the rails, and the black filly dying away, the grand old mare cantered home, amid tremendous cheering, an easy winner by four lengths. Gloom a bad third, Stella fourth, Nunnery fifth, Lucretia sixth, Fraternitd seventh, and Edith, who lost her rider, last. Time, 3m. 41s. Lurline received a great ovation on returning to scale.
