The Malay was becalmed during the greater part of yesterday, although Captain ‘ Hill reports a heavy, sea running outside the Heads : got the wind from the west shortly after sundown, and arrived as above. By the report of the passage it will be seen that the vessel had to run back to Hobarton for shelter, the easterly gales being so severe. The Malay left port again on the 7th, and has made a fair passage of fourteen days, considering the very bad weather she had to contend against. The Malay has brought about 700 tons of general cargo, and seven valuable draught horses, imported by Messrs. Beck and Tonks. At 8 a.m. on the 39th was abreast of Stephens Island; the wind shifting to the S.E., dodged under Durville’s Island. The following day the wind veered round to the N.W.; passed The Brothers at 5 p.m., and at 8 o’clock same night got a fresh south-easter, arriving at the Heads at 10 a.m. on the 2lst; lay there becalmed until 4 p.m., when a light wind sprang up from the N. W,, winch brought her alongside the wharf at 8 o’clock last night.
