The collier barque Australind, which left Newcastle on the Bth—a day after the Heveraham —arrived in port yesterday morning, after a passage of eleven days. Captain Oliver reports having strong northerly gales, with heavy thunderstorms, until arriving off the land on Saturday last. The Australind passed the Edwin Bassett, and exchanged signals with her, when about twenty miles off Cape Farewell. > Owing to the strong southerly wind which was blowing yesterday, she was unable to come alongside the hulk. The fore-and-aft schooner Cynthia, with a cargo of timber, arrived yesterday morning from the Kalpara. She left Kaipara on Sunday at noon, making a very quick run of less than three days. Captain Swede reports having strong N.W. gales, with dirty weather; and when between Capes Egmont and Farewell, observed a large waterspout about a mile off. There was no sign of the p.s. Manawatu when we went to press, which left Wanganui at 8 a.m. yesterday, the wind blowing gently from the N.E., although whep a few miles out to sea she must have encountered the full force of the southerly gale. In all probability she ran back again to Wanganui for Shelter. The ketch Elisabeth, which arrived from Picton yesterday morning with a cargo of timber, bad fair weather on the run across. The s.s. Napier did not sail for Foxton yesterday, as advertised, in consequence of the strong gale which was blowing from the southward. Shipping is again almost at a standstill. The only vessels discharging at the wharf yesterday were the fleet of colliers belonging to Captain Williams, who seems to have taken a lease of the wharf, a desideratum very much longed for by other shipping firms in this city. The schooner Unity arrived from Havelock yesterday morning, with a cargo of timber consigned to Greenfield and StewartThe barque Anne Melhuish, having discharged her cargo of coals, will sail, in ballast, for N ewcastle to-day should the weather permit. The s.s, Easby la expected from the South on the 25th, and will sail for Newcastle on or about the 26th inst.
