VACANCY IN THE PROVINCIAL COUNCIL.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — I am obliged to you for the tenor of your remarks respecting myself, with reference to the seat in the Provincial Council, vacant by the death of Mr. Borlase. My views of the duties of a member of our Provincial Council are, simply that he should do all ; in his power to . aid the Executive in carrying out a v prudent administration of the revenue, and in effecting such alterations in laws of purely local character as may become necessary by reason of changing conditions. Now it happens- that the same views are entertained by Mr. GiUon/who, before the publication \ of your article, had announced himself to many of the electors as intending to become a candidate for the seat, in case of Mr. Borlase’s death ; aild as I consider him to be perfectly qualified to occupy the position, I should not feel justified in opposing him, —I am, &e., Wm. Thos. Locke Travers.
