BY TELEGRAPH.
NAPIER, Tuesday. The brigantine Augusta dragged an anchor this morning, but was got in tow by the Southern Cross, and is all right. PORT CHALMERS, Tuesday. Arrived : s.s. Tararua, with the Suez mail. Sailed : s.s. Wellington. The weather has moderated greatly since daybreak. There is now little or no wind, but a dense fog to seaward accompanied by fine rain.
THE BLUFF, Tuesday. Arrived : 7.30 a.m., Albion, from Dunedin. Sailed: 5p.m., Albion, for Melbourne, with tin English mail.
The barque Sunbeam hauled off from the wharf yesterday, and sailed over to the Patent Slip, to have her bottom examined, prior to being sold to Messrs. P. Cunningham and Co., of Christchurch, subject to their approval. The agents for the Sunbeam, Messrs. Mclntyre and Co., have not completed the final arrangements as to price, &c., but we understand that she will be sold for about £SOOO. Her intending purchasers will have made a good bargain, as the Sunbeam is a capital freight ship, being able to carry about 700 tons of light cargo, as well as having the reputation of always delivering her cargoes in good condition, as instanced by the splendid manner in which she has discharged her recent cargo from Co. she will be employed in the grain trade. The s.s. Phoebe arrived from the North, via Picton and Nelson, at 7 a.m. yesterday, after a pleasant passage ot little over three days from the Manakau. As usual, she brought a number of passengers and a general cargo for all ports. Captain Worsp reports reports leaving the Manukauat 11a.m. on the Bth; arrived at Taranaki at 6.30 the following morning; left again an hour afterwards, and arrived at Nelson at 10.30 p.m. same day. Sailed from Nelson at 11 a.m. of the 10th, and arrived at the wharf at 7 a.m. on the 11th. Experienced S.E. and S.AV, winds, with fine weather, throughout up to arrival. She left again for Southern ports yesterday afternoon, taking number of passengers and a small cargo from this port.
The brigantine Seagull cleared out In ballast yesterday, and will sail to-day for Pelorua Sound, to load timber for here.
The s.s. Egmont, which was advertised to sail for Wanganui last evening, was unable to take her departure in consequence of an accident to her machinery, which caused a delay of some hours. A brigantine was signalled yesterday at mid-day, but she did not round the Heads until 5 o’clock, and then she was unable to fetch the wharf, but was obliged to drop her anchor in the harbor. Owing to the thick mist which overhung the harbor last night we were unable to ascertain her name, but it will most likely turn out to be the Enterprise, from the South, with a cargo of grain. <0 The fore-and-aft schooner Arthur Wakefield sailed yesterday afternoon for Wanganui, with 530 cases of currants, shipped by Messrs. Turnbull and Co. It is most probable the Arthur Wakefield will proceed from Wanganui to Pelorus Sound, to load with timber for this port. The p.s. Manawatu took her departure for Wanganui last evening. The schooner Canterbury is about to receive a
thorough overhaul. When the necessary repairs are completed Captain Mclntyre intends placing her in the Sound trade.
The s.s. Taranaki steamed from the wharf shortly after noon yesterday, for the Manukau, carrying the outward Trisco mail and a number of passengers, and a large cargo for all ports.
