THE THEATRE ROYAL.
The “Geneva Cross,” with Miss_ May Howard in the leading part, seems fairly to have taken hold of the theatrical public. The opening performance was witnessed by an overflowing audience, yet last evening the demand upon the spacious accommodation of the theatre was even greater than upon the occasion of Miss Howard’s first appearance. It may, therefore, fairly be inferred that she has won a favorable place in the opinion of the people, and that the season will be a highly remunerative one. The character of the play, and the merit of its production, have already been commented upon in flattering terms ; it only remains to bo said that the experience of the previous evening removed certain minor defects, m the absence of which the piece went with greater smoothness. The members of the company, also, had settled down to their parts, and the rendering as a was more effective. The interest in the play seemed rather increased than diminished, and when the Prussians scaled the ramparts and carried the fort at the point of the bayonet, in the last scone, the applause was deafening. The piece will bo repeated this evening.
