RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Monday, May 10. (Before J. C. Crawford, Esq., R.M.) DEBNK AND DISORDERLY. Luke Harris, an old offender, was fined 10s., or in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment. The prisoner chose the latter alternative, preferring the comfortable quarters of the lock-up. Charles Anderson, charged with the same offence, did not appear, hut forfeited his hail of £l. VAGRANCY. Martha Ford, -who had only just left the gaol, was again charged with having no lawful or visible means of support. His Worship sentenced the prisoner to three months, with hard labor. inBEAT-ENINO LANGUAGE. An information was laid against W. Haldaby Mr. N. Nixon, tub-contractor, for "ming threatening language; but, on the case ~ " ."'"C called on, the complainant did not appear, and hi. Worship dismissed the case. CLAIM rOB KOHHKtfLKSH. Manihaia Ngatoro, a Maori chief residing at the Hutt, soi;,"ht to lecover damages to the amount of £7 U. from Mr. K. Bcrger (also living at the Hutt), whose horse entered the complainant's paddock, destroying a portion of the fence and: kicking a filly so severely as to render it quite useless, so that Manihera had. to destroy it. After hearing a good deal of conflicting evidence on both sides, the Court awarded complainant compensation to the amount of £6 75., and costs.
