THE BLUFF, Thursday.. 4JIIUVED.—4 p.m. : "VVanganui, from Dunedin. Sailed.—Michael Angelo, and India, ship 3, for Newcastle; Express, s.s., for Dunedin. PORT CHALMERS, Thursday. Akkived.—Luna, p.s., from Lyttelton ; Timaro, ship from Glasgow, with 110 statute*adults, all well. The ship Portland, from Hongkong, with Chinese passengers, is at the Heads. The south-west gale, which blew with great fury from Saturday until Tuesday evening, has moderated, with every appearance of fine weather.
The A.S.P. Co.'s Southern Cross arrived from Auckland via Napier at f 1.30 last night. We are indebted to the first officer for the report of the passage: —Left Auckland at 3 p.m. on the Ist, and arrived at Napier on Monday night at 10 p.m., having encountered one of the severest gales from the southward ever experienced. Discharged about 60 tons of cargo, and landed 20 passengers. Left Napier on the 6th at 3 p.m., and arrived in Wellington as above. Messrs. McMeckan and Blackwood's favorite Melbourne trader the s.s. Albion, Captain Underwood, arrived at 7 a.m. yesterday, bringing a large cargo for Wellington and a number of passengers. The following la the report of herpassage from Melbourne to Wellington—Cleared Port Phillip Heads at 6.35 p.m. on the 28th April; passed the Sisters at 10.45 a.m. on the 29th. and arrived off Hokitika at 12.30 p.m. on the 3rd May, making the run in four days eighteen hows. On Tuesday, 4th May, transhipped part of canjo Into *". Lioness and left Hokitika at 9.40 am but meeting the s.s. Waipara midway, between that port and Greymonth transhipped balance of cargo into her and then resumed her voyage, arriving at Nelson at 8 a.m. on the Gth May. - Left Nelson at 7 p.m. same day, and arrived here as above. Experienced S. and S 8 W. winds with high seas and occasional squalls to Hokitika, from thence light variable breezes and pleasant weather. We have to thank Mr. G. Rhlgely, purser, for our Melbourne exchanges, and other favors. The Albion is advertised to sail for Melbourne via Southern ports at 2 p.m., and will take the outward U sh™blrane Edwin Bassott, from Newcastle, was signalled between eight and nine did not reach her anchorage until 3.30 in the afternoon having to beat up the harbor against a head wind'. Wo have to thank Captain I'orster for files of the Newcastle journals. The smart fore-and-aft schooner Falcon sailed last night for Blenheim. Her cargo consisted principally of drapery; no less than twenty-six cases being shipped by Mr. Moss, who has built a largo store there. The steamer Manawatu arrived yesterday afternoon from Wanganui. Captain Evans reports leaving Wanganui at 9 p.m. on the sth, arriving in port at 12.45 p.m. Had fine weather during the trip. The Manawatu will leave for "Wanganui at 4 o'clock this afternoon. , , , The wind veered round to the N. W. early yesterday morning and blew gently from that quarter all the day. The ship Dallam Tower, and the barque Light of the Age, were enabled to proceed on their voyage in consequence. The captain of the Dallam Tower was unsuccessful in his efforts to regain his lost anchor and part of the chain, although every attempt was made to get it. •
