An accident happened on Saturday evening last, says the Wairarapa Standard, to an extra coach which was forwarded to Masterton with immigrants. The main road through Kuripuni is somewhat narrow, and lined on either side with flax. It was quite dark, and one of the horses commenced shying at the flax. The driver checked one or two attempts of the land on the part of the animal, and while his foot was pressing hard on the brake, a sudden swerve of the beast took the wheels on the right side of the vehicle over the edge of a narrow culvert. Fortunately the flax supported the wheels, and the coach did not capsize. The driver was thrown violently from his seat, but retaining his hold of the reins, he pulled all the horses up with a quick jerk. The passengers escaped without fall or injury. The driver—Mr. Frank Morphy—was shaken and bruised ; and the pole of the coach.was broken.
