We have been favored by Mr. J. Kelloher says the Wairarapa JVews, with a sketch of the Manawatu Gorge bridge. As the structure is now almost completed, a description of it may not be uninteresting to our readers Th bridge is about 400 ft. long, and consists of six small spans of 40ft. centres, and a main span of 162 ft. It stands upon six piers 40ft. hig-h built of stone and cement, and bavins the bed* rock for foundation. The platform inSnediatelv above the piers is composed of boiler-iron Over this is a senes of wooden trestles 20ft' high, upon which the roadway rests, and the' "*° le B ™°, unte . d b ? a protective wooden railing 15ft. high. A wooden archway supports the roadway over the main span, so that if the iron platform were earned away, the roadway immediately above it would not be diatmW The whole of the wood-work is of totara* well seasoned for the purpose. “*weu
