The New York Times states that a number of bets were made that the bids for pews in Plymouth (Mr. Beecher’s) Church would fall off this year; but, on the contrary, they have risen. The fixed valuations amounted in the whole to $12,860 ; but the premiums bid for choice reached $58,305, making the total revenue $71,165. The first choice of all sold for S4OO last year, hut brought $550 this year. There are 500 free seats. The Times announces the death of Mr. George Einlay, its correspondent at Athens. He was one of the staunchest supporters of the cause of Greek independence, and was probably the last survivor of that small hand of enthusiasts who xvent out to Greece to join Lord Byron and the Philhellenes. • The Manchester Theatre Royal has been sold for the sum of £50,000. It is said to have been purchased by a company, and that the establishment will still be conducted as' a theatre.
Mr. Serjeant Ballyntine, who has accepted a brief to defend the Guicowar of Baroda from the charge of attempting to poison Colonel Phayre, left London on Tuesday afternoon by the Brindisi route for Bombay. It is understood that his retaining fee is 6000 guineas, with “refreshers” to an equal amount. The learned Serjeant expects to be absent about three months.
