Mr. J. H. Wallace, at his monthly sale of stock at the Hutt Market, on the 7th inst., sold fat steers at £8 to £8 155.; store cattle, mixed lot, yearlings to 3 years, £2 15s. per head ; cows, £3 to £6 ; horses, £3 6s. to £ls ; 2-tooth rams, 205.; a few old ewes, 2s. Gd. per head; wethers withdrawn at Bs. Gd. per head. MELBOURNE IMPORT MARKET. (From the Ar{\us, March 31.) In the import markets to-day no indication of any desire to do business was noticeable, and even for trade purposes only a very moderate inquiry was experienced throughout. Breadstuffs show no chango, though the holidays might well have been the cause of giving an easier tone to the market. Flour is offering at £lO 12s. Gd., and we hear of no sellers under. Wheat is very Arm, and wanted at an extreme figure. Sales arc making at 4s. 9d. for flno samples. From Messrs. Barry and Fhillipson's Adelaide circular of 27th March, wo learn that the farmers are not inclined to sell more wheat than compelled, and prices aro very stiff. A few more ships had been chartered during the month for London at a reduction, but tho advance on wheat wa3 fully equal to the decline in freight. The exports to date amounted io 43,000 tons. Oats do not command so much notice, but values aro fully supported : for good to fine feeding lots 4s. to 4s. 3d. is obtained. Maize, in consequence of a larger quantity coming forward than was expected, is decidedly lower. Importers have been offering freely at ss. Gd., without meeting with much encouragement at the reduction. Blasting powder is in moderate request. We learn of tho quittance of a shipment of Pigou and Wilkes's at Bid. This brand is coming into considerable favor. Purchasers of hops are now coming forward more readily, and large sales are being effected. Of Shoobridgo's Tasmanlan 1875, we hear of 200 bales having been taken up in one line, on private terms, and 100 bales additional have been moved off in smaller parcels. The trado price of 2s. Gd. is still maintained for this brand. We likewise learn of the disposal of 80 bales of Jeffrey's hops, on tho spot and to arrive, at Is. lljd. ; the sample is stated to bo of very fine quality. Wo note a good trade demand as springing up for candles, and MM}, can be realised for best brands. In liquids, we note tho placing of a parcel of equal to 40 quarters Ilcnnesay's pale brandy at 7b.
