CRICKET MATCH.

• A cricket match was played at Pahautanui, on Monday, between the Colts Club, of Wellington, and the Pahautanui Club. Mr. Stace kindly lent his large paddock for the occasion. The day was beautifully fine, and a great many ladies and visitors were on the ground. The play was remarkably good on both sides, and for the first time this season resulted in a victory for Pahautanui, with five wickets to fall. Messrs. Lowes and Prance, of the Colts, played in their usual good style ; and the fielding altogether was exceedingly good, especially a catch made by Mr, Lublin off his own bowling. He had to run after the ball in the same direction as it was travelling, and catch it with his left hand. For Pahautanui Messrs. Thompson and Boulton did good service with the bat, and Mr. Eggulden in the bowling. Mr. Teal’s wicket-keeping .was remarkably good. A player has to be careful and keep his ground when he is at the wicket, or he is out before he knows it. Owing to the shortness of the notice it was impossible to entertain the Colts at dinner, so they were invited to the tea meeting, which was held in the schoolroom, and after they had spent a pleasant hour together there they departed for Wellington, being loudly cheered by the Pahautanui Club.
