THE VOLUNTEERS.
(From the LytteUon Times.) The competition for the cadet district prizes being concluded, the names of those entitled to shoot for the championship can now he given. The regulations provide that the thirty highest scorers for the district prizes throughout the colony may fire for the champion prizes, of which there are three, the first being the Cadet Champion Belt, with a silver medal and £8 ; the second £5, and third £3. The Canterbury cadets made very poor shooting for the district prizes, and ouly one of them is among the names of the thirty, and the scores they made in firing for the district prizes are as follows : —Cadet J. White, Dunedin, 72 ; Sergeant Partington, Auckland, 72 ; Corporal Yates, Auckland, 71 ; Cadet J. Currie, Waiuku, 07 ; Sub-Lieutenant Beal, Auckland, 65 ; Cadet W. Ballinger, Wellington, 65 ; Ensign J. McUoual, Rangitikei, 64 ; Lieut. W. Worthington, Southland, 64 ; Cadet A. Ballinger, Wellington, 63 ,• Sergeant Arnad, Wanganui, 62 ; Cadet W. Hankin, Waikato, 61 ; Corporal W. Rout, Nelson, 61 ; Cadet W. Milton, Wellington, 61 ; Corporal W. Johnstone, Kangitikei, 61 ; Cadet G. Howe, Wellington, 61 ; Cadet W. Eyre, Dunediu, 60 ; Sergeant H. Hawke, Marlborough, 60; Cadet H. Growden, Dunedin, 59 ; Corporal W. CopeJand, Wanganui, 58 ; Cadet Willis, Christchurch, 58; Cadet G. Pearson, Waikato, 58 ; Lieut. Rattray, Auckland, 58 ; Cadet T.
