ARRIVAL OR THE MACGREGOR. [Per Press Agency.] Auckland, Friday, 9 p.m. The mail steamer Macgregor has arrived from Sydney, which she left on the night of the 13th inat. She will sail for San Francisco, with the mails, before morning. She brings no later news, and her Australian news generally is unimportant or has been anticipated by the Omeo. Gbahamstown, Friday. The Ohinemuri talk continued all day yesterday until dusk, when a number of the principal chiefs came forward, and signed the agreement prepared for coding their rights over the land. "At the Magistrate's Court, to-day, about thirty cases were brought against cabmen for the obstruction of the thoroughfares by standing with their cabs thereon. Dr. Foster, City Solicitor, appeared for the prosecution, and Mr. Garrick for the defence. The latter contended that no obstruction was caused, as there was ample room for the traffic in the thoroughfares where the cabs were standing. He also argued that if the cabs so standing were a public nuisance, complaint should have proceeded by indictment to have it stopped or abated. The Bench imposed a fine of 10s. in each case. Mr. Garrick gave notice that ,he would move for prohibition iu the Supreme Court. The Heathcote regatta, yesterday, was only a moderate success. Dr. Bakewell, writing to the Star on the action of the Board of Health, in admitting the Garelooh to pratique, says the utter imbecility of the Boai'd has shown itself on every occasion when it has had to act ; but now it has surpassed itself iu folly and stupidity. Had the Board wished to have scarlet fever ragiug through the province, and thence diffusing itself through the whole island, it could not do better than release the Gareloch. He strongly protested against the astounding act of folly committed. Father Coleman brings an action for slander against the Times for inserting a letter to-day in re the collections of St. Joseph’s Church.
