MANAWATU HIGHWAY BOARD.
A meeting of the above Board was held in the Court-honse, Palmerston, on Friday, the sth inat. Members present Messrs. Snellson, Dalrymple, Stewart, and Farmer. The following letters were read From his Honor the Superintendent, informing the Board that the assistant-engineer will visit this district, and take steps in reference to the road line- connecting Palmerston with Fitzherberton. From the Provincial Treasurer, enclosing a draft for £Bl 135., being the third instalment due to the Board. From A. F. Halcombe, Esq., urging the Board to undertake certain works on the road from Awahuri to Feilding. From H. Rookel, inspector of works, tendering his resignation. Resolved, —“ That the chairman request him to attend at the next meeting of the Board, and furnish a statement shewing the nature of his work on behalf of the Board during the past three months.” From Messrs. Stace, asking to have a bridge erected over a lagoon on road line Te Maitai. Resolved to call for tenders for the same. From Mr. S. Fagan, drawing the attention of the Board to the present state of the road adjoining his property at Sandon, and asking to have certain improvements, made before next winter. Mr. Farmer was authorised to employ Mr. Drummond to lay off road lines leading to the properties of G. Wilson, Esq., and others, and the bush road line near Sandon. Tenders were laid before the meeting for the undermentioned works : Feilding and Awahuri Contract. Accepted—Drummond, £279 10s. Declined— Ducas,£3s7 10s.; Johnstone,£462 ; McArthur, £284 7s. fid.; McArty, £453 ; Desmond and Co„ £3OO 12s. 6d. Karcrc Bridges Contract.—Accepted—Callereon, £55. Declined—McEwan, £B4 15s. 4d.; Anderson, £lO9 Bs. Jaokeytowu Contract.—Accepted—Taylor (only tender), £2 2s. per chain. Palmerston Reserve Contract. —Accepted— Guldbrandsen, £1 12s. per chain. Declined— Haggerty, £3 per chain; Hill, £2 2s. 6cl; Hansen, £2 ss. Terrace End Contract. —Accepted—G. Hansen, £1 15s. Declined—Haggerty, £1 17s. fid.; Guldbrandsen, £2. Ran Kaua Contract.—Accepted—Grammer, £52. Declined—Haggerty, £57 16s. fid. ; Erenstrom and Co., £174 10s. Scandinavian Block Contract. —Accepted— Reinnersen and Co., £1 2a. fid. per chain. Declined—Haggerty, £1 2s. fid. (informal). The following accounts were passed :—Rowland, £2 ; Drummond, £ls 10s. The Board then adjourned until Friday, 19th March, at one p.m.
