THEATRE ROYAL.

A most successful season of two months was brought to a close on Saturday evening with the repetition of the “Red Pocket- - Book.” The attendance was large and enthusiastic, and in response to an unanimous call at the end of the play, Mr. and Mrs. Bates reappeared to bow their acknowledgments. Mr. Bates took advantage of the opportunity to return thanks to the audience for their patronage —“ He hoped they had received as much pleasure in witnessing the performances as he had in producing them; he had done his best by careful rehearsals, appropriate dresses, and proper attention to scenic effects to secure the public favor, and the remembrance of the pleasant season of eight weeks, now at an end, would not easily be banished from his memory. He felt that he had made many warm friends in Wellington, and in taking leave he begged to thank most heartily the public, the Press, and the ladies and gentlemen of his company, for the kindness and consideration that had been shown to Mrs. Bates and himself on all occasions.” It is perhaps needless to add that this short address was followed by very hearty applause. There will be an extra and special performance this evening, for the benefit of Mrs. Bates,.when the admirable play of “ Xngomar ” will be performed, followed by “ Family Jars,” in which Mr. Sam Howard will appear. Mrs. Bates is in every way so well , deserving that we trust she will be rewarded on this occasion with a bumper house.
