From the Ist proximo, samples will he charged by Her Majesty's Customs on entry and payment a simple duty according to the following scale :—Spirits, 2s. fid.; wine, Is. 6d.; tobacco, Is. 6d.; cigars and snuff, Is. 6d. But the quantities to be delivered as samples are not to exceed the following:—Spirits and wines (in case), bottle ; spirits and wines (in cask), 8 gills ; tobacco, J-lb. ; cigars and snuff, J-lb. Mr. Sayle, who was lately drowned at Akaroa, while sailing for the first time his uewiy-purchased prize yacht Ripple, was not long a resident of Greymouth, where ho was ■well-known for his fondness for aquatic sports.
