MR. YOUNG’S CANDIDATURE.

Sir, —It is not for me to explain the secret of Mr Young’s conduct du connection with the Te Aro election. Whether Mr. Young has or has not retired from the contest matters little to me ; but I do object to Mr. Young furthering his own ends by bringing my veracity into question. I individualise myself because it was I who wrote the paragraph in the New Zealand Times which the Post, on the “assurance” of Mr. Young, declares to be “utterly untrue* and entirely without foundation.” Now, Istate- emphatically that the paragraph relating to Mr Young’s retirement was written at Ms suggestion upon information supplied by himcif to me, so that it ran no risk of being added to or substracted from by nitration through a third party. I can only assure you that Mr. Young’s statements to me are faithfully condensed in the paragraph which has formed the groundwork of an attack on the New Zealand Times, and that paragraph will stand as a witness against Mr. Young in spite of any casuistic attempt at explanation. If Mr. Young desires it, I will recite the substance of the conversation which '* took place between us, wliich will perhaps refresh his memory as to the leading facts.—l am, &c., George Fisher.
