Tea 102 7 0 slapping &c. 74 5 1 Coffee and chi- . . cory .. .. 85 18 0 £2579 0 0 The local trade during the week has been dull, although an active demand for goods for the out ports has to some extent compensated for the shortcomings of the city. Stocks are nevertheless much too heavy just now to admit of anything like a reasonable profit being obtained for most imported goods, and in many Instances an absolute loss must be sustained, unless importations tall within reasonable limits. In spirits,: especially in bond, the stock is excessive, and wo hear of shipments ol Bisqnit Dubouche and Co.’s brandy to arrive to the extent of 250 qr.-casks and 1000 cases. Our trade may be, and doubtless is. in a very flourishing condition, but importers should use some discretion in their advices, as there must be a limit which it is unsafe to pass. Several auction sales have been held during the week, at which a considerable amount of goods was cleared at very moderate prices, the sales being mostly clearing ones. At Mr. E. J. Duncan’s sale on the 3rd instant, Vsrnlvillo sugar. No. 2 W., fetched 4Jd. to 6d. per lb.; soda crystals, £l2 per ton; cigars, 10s. to 11s. 6d. per 100 ; St. Julien claret, 20s. to 225. per doz. : La Eose do, 30s. to 325. per doz., d.p. ; stationery and brushware fair prices ; and on the 2nd instant an aero of land in the outskirts of the city brought £BO ; and two allotments in Tory-street, £3l and £4O each. In colonial produce, there has been little doing. Flour is unaltered from last week’s rates. In feeding grains, oats are dull, buyers being afraid to lay in stock on account of the reported good harvest in the south and generally throughout the colony. New oats have been offered at 4s. Cd. to 4s. Od. per bushel i old do, of good sample, are worth ss. to ss. 3d. Keg butter is quite neglected, and we hear of no sales. Cheese in demand, ,at 7d. to Od. per lb. Bacon and hams in fair demand, at Is. 2d. to Is. 4d., for prime cure in cloth.
