An extensive system of robbery has been going on for some time at the premises of Messrs. Oaten and Middleton, wholesale saddlers, Lonsdale-street, and yesterday Charles Hall, Thomas Todd, and John Brownhill were charged at the City Court with being implicated therein. Six months ago Todd, who is a working saddler, was in the employ of Messrs. Oaten and Middleton, and was subsequently discharged. After his dismissal he is stated to have made an arrangement with the prisoner Brownhill, a young lad also employed by the firm, to have a back window left open at night, so that he could, gain access to the premises and remove the property. The goods missed consisted of eighteen saddles, about six dozen bridles, a quantity of whips, mountings, harness furniture, and other things, to the value of about £2OO. Hall was arrested last week, and was remanded, and afterwards information being received by the police that the prisoner Todd, who keeps a saddler's shop in Elizabeth-street, had been purchasing the property from Hall as it was taken away from Messrs. Oaten’s and Middleton’s premises, a warrant was obtained for his arrest. Brownhill has since been discharged, there being no case against him.
