CHALLENGE MANIA.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Having observed In our local newspapers from time to time different challenges, issuing, as it appears, for no other purpose than to try and get a name for themselves. As a proof, the ones issued by Barron and Smith, which, on being taken up. they declined to sign articles and make the customary deposit. This course of proceedings on the part of those parties Is looked upon by the public In general as a very poor way of gaining a good reputation as runners. Hoping that for the future that any party wishing to aspire for laurels will bo fully prepared to stand to his challenge, should It bo accepted ; and not, as In the cases of those mentioned, allowed to fall through.—! am, Ac,, W. Delaney.
