[Phess Telequaph Agency.] Auckland, Saturday. The Inverene, from London, has brought 208 passengers, all well. At the regatta yesterday, in the yacht race for yachts under nine tone, the Sabrina was leading when her gear carried away, and the Lizard went ahead, but in rounding Rangitoto buoy the last time the Lizard capsized and sank. All the crew were rescued by the Hit-or-Miss, which won the race. The Customs authorities have returned the schooner Dauntless (seized for smuggling) to her owner, fining him £IOO. Auckland beat Thames in tho Amateur Gigrace to-day. Alexandra, Sunday. The annual sports came off yesterday, under the patronage of Sir Donald McLean. A large number of Europeans and natives were present from the surrounding districts. Tho entries were numerous, and the prizes were well con : tested, the natives taking a good share. Sir Donald McLean is still here, and appears to have his hands full of business, judging from the number of his visitor's. Dunedin, Saturday. Christchurch, Saturday. The hostilities between the City Council and cabmen have assumed an active phase. The Council, pursuant to a resolution passed at the last meeting, blocked up the cabstands early on Friday morning, and the police received orders not to allow cabs to stand about thoroughfares, but to keep them moving on. In the afternoon the cabmen consulted a legal adviser, and then proceeded to the cabstands in a body, and removed the obstructions. The Mayor gave one of the cabmen into custody. The case will probably be tried to-day. The cabmen occupied the stands for the rest of the day, but during last night the Corporation employes erected a strong post and chain fence, and dug a ditch round each cabstand. The cabmen have not attempted to interfere with this work yet, and not being permitted to stand anywhere, are now parading the streets in quest of 'fares. The testimonial to the Hon. C. 0. Bowen, late 11. M., will be presented on Monday. The Superintendent will preside. Wanganui, Saturday. It is now positively known that Mr. R. Pharazyn declines to stand for Rangitikei, should Mr. Fox resign. THE VOLUNTEER PRIZE FIRING AT THE THAMES. Gbahambtown, Saturday. The morning was very wet and windy. The firing at the 400 yards range, Seventh Match, only commenced after breakfast. Showers fell during shooting, and going to this range. The three hundred yards range of the Seventh Infantry Match was finished last night, having been delayed by rain, which fell at intervals during the afternoon rather heavily. The interest is intense, as this match decides the championship. Ohurton, of Wanganui, fired for the first time yesterday. Nelson (Thames) was absent.
