COMMERCIAL.

The Customs duties received at this port for the week ending January 21, 1875. were as under: —

There is no change of any consequence in the import trade of the past week, which lias proved a dull and unimportant one; Generally speaking, prices arc depressed and in favor of the buyer. Several large auction sales have been held, at whlchfair prices have been obtained, though necessarily lower than our quotations, as is usually the case in unreserved sales. On the 19th Atr. it. J. Duncan sold Salt’s bottled ale at 11s.; Star of India do., 9s. Od.: Pig brand, 11s. 3d.; Blood’s stout, 11s.; and Guinness's stout at 11s. A large quantity of goods were cleared, the sale amounting to close on £2OOO. In New Zealand produce, butter in kegs is un. altered in value, with little or no demand; cheese and bacon scarce, and r deablo "our last week’s quotations : flour, steady a', last v. eek’s rates; oats in moderate supply, and td-cks t.* old oats becoming low, although the exceptionally hot weather will prevent any material difference in value between old and new crop. Holders are asking Gs. 9d. to Gs. 3d. for old oats, but as the new crop must be ready for shipment, and is said to have been a good one, we see no probability that these rates will improve.
